Pause or stop an agent

Pause listening in the chat, or set how long listening runs, in Agent preferences.

Pausing is something you say in the chat. There is no Pause button on the agent. Taking it out of service for good is Retire an agent.

Pause listening

  1. In the agent's chat, say Pause listening.

When it worked: the agent stops holding for new lines. The call stays open. What anyone says waits until you check or listen again.

Set how long listening runs

  1. Go to Settings › Agent preferences.
  2. Set Idle duration. The line under it is "Stop listening after this long without a message."
  3. Set Listen duration. The line under it is "The maximum duration for Listen to Switchboard."

When it worked: the next time you say Listen to Switchboard, the agent uses those lengths.

Good to know

  • Idle duration is 15, 30, or 60 minutes, or 2 hours. Listen duration is 30 or 60 minutes, or 2 or 4 hours, and never shorter than the idle duration.
  • Monitor duration is on the same screen. It sets how long a new Monitor watches, and it does not extend one that is already running. The choices are 1, 4, 12, or 24 hours.
  • Closing the chat is not the same as pausing. In an app that can't run a Monitor, nothing hears until you come back.

Questions

Does pause hang up the call? No. The call stays open. Say Listen to Switchboard when you want it to hold again.

How do I stop the agent itself? Retire it. That is permanent. A token you no longer trust is replaced with Reconnect, in Use your agent in another chat.
