The Personal AI Moment

Today, most AI runs in industrial-scale cloud data centers where intelligence is centralized and rented by the token. That architecture requires enormous electricity, massive cooling infrastructure, huge capital expenditures, and hyperscale cloud providers.

We believe in a different future for AI. As models become more efficient and hardware becomes more capable, intelligence should move closer to the person using it, following a classic computing pattern.

A similar pattern has occurred elsewhere. In the music industry, recording studios gave way to digital audio workstations. In enterprise software, mainframe systems evolved into distributed applications. In photography, film labs were replaced by editing software. In media, broadcast television was overtaken by personal content.

The same moment is now happening in AI.

Instead of being warehoused in data centers and metered like a utility, we believe personal intelligence should run on devices owned by the people who use them. Decentralization instead of centralization. Microscaling instead of hyperscaling. Owned instead of rented. Yours not theirs.

Shared Beliefs

Anywhere Intelligence is a team of engineers and builders who used to work at leading Silicon Valley companies. We came together to build a different kind of AI. We share a few simple beliefs.

Your AI should belong to you. Not rented from a cloud provider or billed by the token. Personal intelligence should run on machines individually owned and controlled.

AI should be personal. The systems we interact with every day should remember context, interests, and meaning across time. Your AI should know you, not forget you every time you log in.

AI should be private by design. Privacy should not depend on policy or trust. It should emerge from architecture. When AI runs locally, you control what gets shared.

AI should be explainable. Personal intelligence systems should be designed so their answers and actions can be inspected, understood, and corrected by the people using them.

AI should not be controlled by a small number of companies. The future of intelligence should not be decided by a handful of hyperscalers that treat intelligence like a metered utility service.

AI should be open to improvement. We aim to open source and write about major components of AIOS so that developers, researchers, and builders can extend and improve it over time.
