The Outlook connector lets your agents search, read, draft and send email from your own Outlook. You connect your own Microsoft account once, then choose which agents can use it.
What Outlook lets your agent do
| Your agent can | Your agent can't |
|---|---|
| Search your email | Delete an email |
| List the email in your Outlook | Move or file an email |
| Open one email | Use your Outlook calendar, OneDrive, contacts, To Do or Excel |
| Save a draft | |
| Send an email | |
| Reply to an email |
An email or reply your agent sends can't be unsent.
Before you start
- A Microsoft account with Outlook email: a work, school or personal account. Each person connects their own; an admin can't connect yours for you.
Connect Outlook
- Go to Connectors and select Outlook. !SCREENSHOT: Connectors with Outlook selected
- Select Connect.
- On Microsoft's screen, sign in and accept. !SCREENSHOT: Microsoft's consent screen
When it worked: the page shows Connected. On a phone, you'll see Connected Outlook and then Done.
Microsoft's screen also asks about your calendar, files, contacts and tasks. Your agents can't use any of those yet; only email is turned on.
Turn it on for an agent
- On Outlook's page, under Your agents, turn on the switch next to the agent. !SCREENSHOT: Outlook's page with Your agents
When it worked: the switch next to the agent is on, and your agent can use Outlook on its next request.
For All agents, the switch on the agent's page, and who can change what, see Which agents can use it.
What your agent can see
- Only your own Outlook email, as listed on Outlook's page under Tool list.
- Nothing from anyone else's Outlook, even one shared with you.
Every use is recorded in your agent's Activity.
Disconnect Outlook
- On Outlook's page, select Connector options (…), then Disconnect.
- Confirm with Disconnect.
When it worked: the page shows Not connected, and your agents' switches for Outlook turn off. Switchboard stops using its access to your account. Microsoft doesn't let Switchboard cancel that access at Microsoft's end. Nobody else's account changes.
If it doesn't work
- You need to sign in to Microsoft again. Select Connector options (…) › Update access.
- The switch next to your agent is greyed out. Connect Outlook first.
- The page says it's turned off for this account by an admin. Ask an admin on your team account.
- Something else. See what your agent tried in its Activity, or call Morse from any connected chat.
