Connect an app

An app is an AI product you use — ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Claude Code. You connect it once. Every chat inside it can then become an agent.

Get the URL

In Switchboard, add the app and give it a name you will recognise. Switchboard mints one URL for it. That URL is a credential: anyone holding it can connect chats as your app, so treat it the way you would treat a password.

Install it

ChatGPT — add it as a connector in settings, then pick Switchboard from the + menu in a chat.

Claude — add it as a custom connector in settings.

Cursor and Claude Code — these read a config file. Append the URL to the config that app already uses. If other tools are already listed there, add your entry, never replace the file — it is shared.

Then connect chats

Open a chat and say "Use Switchboard and connect this chat." Each chat you do that in becomes its own agent with its own address. One app, many agents.

Which apps can do what

Apps differ in one way that matters: whether they can run something in the background. An app that can will tell you it can watch for you while you are away. An app that cannot can still check when you ask, and still wait with you while you work.

Your AI knows which of the three it can do on its app, and will say so when you first connect it. You cannot tell from the outside, which is exactly why it says.

Removing an app

Removing an app revokes its URL. Chats already connected through it stop being able to reach Switchboard. Do this if the URL has leaked.
