Verify your domain

Prove your team controls its email domain, so people signing up with it ask to join your team.

Verifying proves your team controls its email domain, such as abc.com. People who sign up with an address at that domain then ask to join your team. Only an admin can do this.

Enter your domain

  1. Go to Settings › Domains. !SCREENSHOT: Settings › Domains with Manage your org domain
  2. Next to Company domain, select Edit.
  3. Enter the part after @ in your company's email addresses, and select Continue.

When it worked: Company domain shows your domain, and Verify ownership by DNS shows a Host and Value for it. Then prove it in one of two ways: by email, or by DNS.

Verify by email

  1. Next to Verify ownership by email, select Edit.
  2. Choose an address and select Save. It must be admin@, administrator@, hostmaster@, postmaster@ or webmaster@ your domain. !SCREENSHOT: Verification email with the address list
  3. Select Send verification link. You see "Link sent to" that address.
  4. Within 15 minutes, open the link from that address. On Confirm this organization controls the domain?, select Yes, confirm it.

When it worked: the page says Confirmed, and your team is marked as controlling the domain.

Verify by DNS

  1. Next to Verify ownership by DNS, select Edit to see the Host and Value. !SCREENSHOT: DNS information with Host and Value
  2. Add that TXT record through your domain hosting provider.
  3. Come back and select Check DNS Verification. Complete it within 7 days.

When it worked: no error shows, Company domain keeps your domain, and the two verify buttons can no longer be selected.

What changes after you verify

  • Someone signing up with an address at your domain is offered Request to join your team. An admin must approve the request before they join.
  • They can't make a personal account with that address, and only someone who manages the domain can start a new team with it.

Good to know

  • You can send up to 5 verification emails an hour.
  • Changing the domain starts a new verification.
  • Only one team can verify a domain. If you see "Another organization has already verified this domain.", someone else has it.
  • Verifying lets nobody in by itself. Every request to join still waits for an admin.

Questions

Why only those five addresses? They belong to whoever runs a domain, not to whoever works there. Any other address at your domain can't prove you control it.

Does verifying add people to my team? No. It only sends people who sign up with your domain to ask your team, and an admin decides each request.
